About the company:Our client, a State Government organisation, is seeking multiple TO2 Fisheries Technicians to support fisheries research programs by liaising with commercial fishers for the collection of catch data from fishing gear trials. This is a casual ongoing position. Please note that hours will fluctuate throughout the year depending on operational needs, applicant skill set, and availability. During peak periods (typically March to November, with June, July and August being the busiest months), you can expect to work up to full‑time hours, while during the off‑season work may be limited to a couple of days per month. Location(s) of roles:  Townsville and Airlie Beach   The successful candidate/s will perform the following duties:Prepare and participate in field work at short notice and for extended periods that may involve working in difficult conditions (e.g. remote areas, at sea, torrential rain).Assist with the processing of biological samples and fisheries data.Assist with the collection, entry and management of data into appropriate software, including quality assurance processes.Think through operational procedures, identify problems and suggest pragmatic solutions particularly during fieldwork.Work effectively and collaboratively within a team of scientists and technical staff.Have a role in ensuring health and safety obligations for boat, field and laboratory work.   Essential requirements for this role:A current “C” class drivers’ license.Experience in field data collection, preferably in marine environment.Ability to continue to work at sea under rough sea conditions and for extended periods.  Highly desirable to this role are:Minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor degree in Applied Science, Aquaculture, Fisheries Science or equivalent.A coxswain’s certificate.First Aid certificate Apply!
