About the Role: Our client, a State Government organisation, is seeking a PO3 Scientist for a casual full‑time role through to 30 June 2026, with the possibility of extension. Based in the Brisbane CBD, this position sits within the plant biosecurity team and focuses on delivering effective pest and disease surveillance outcomes. Duties:Performing scientific/technical literature reviews and write concise scientific reports, papers and recommendations.Collate information and provide advice to support policy, strategy, and stakeholder guidance.Collaborate with scientists across programs, government, and research institutes to resolve challenges and deliver biosecurity solutions, including:Prioritising pests for analysis.Assisting with pest risk and pathway assessments.Improving and validating biosecurity surveillance practices.Developing and optimising analytical methods.Reviewing and overseeing work outputs.Liaise with external stakeholders to build effective relationships, advise on routine pest/disease issues, and participate in forums or community events to support biosecurity risk management.Present research at state and national conferences with senior scientist guidance. Requirements: To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:  Experience in epidemiology and statistics is highly desirable. Must have current C Class drivers’ licence and be willing to occasionally travel interstate.An Australian bachelor’s degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in biological or agricultural sciences from a recognised tertiary institution.Experience working within the Agricultural sector, handling documentation and following processes and procedures.Experience in working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.Must be willing to undergo a criminal history check.
