About the company/role:
Based in the north of Sydney, this well-known government contract testing laboratory is responsible for the development and maintenance of Australia’s peak physical measurement standards specifically biological measurements. The Analytical Chemist will provide support to the Chemical Reference Materials Laboratory contributing to the analytical work and maintaining the quality system requirements.

Responsibilities include:
  • Operate and trouble shoot analytical instrumentation - HPLC, GC-FID and Karl Fischer moisture analysis.
  • Analyse organic calibration standards
  • Undertake data analysis in Excel & update certificates of analysis using Microsoft Word.
  • Implement quality system improvements consistent with ISO 17034 (updates to methods, SOPs and the quality manual).
  • Prepare for NATA audits including validation of methods and data sets.
  • Support the senior scientist with management of investigations, corrective actions and implementation of improved processes to prevent reoccurrence of quality nonconformances.
Skills & experience:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry or equivalent
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation – GC, LC, Karl Fischer
  • Knowledge of quality standards including ISO 17034
  • Experience in preventative and corrective actions and continuous improvements related to quality systems
  • Experience in mathematical and statistical calculations
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work co-operatively and effectively in a team environment
  • Australian Citizenship required
