APS6 Senior Performance and Evaluations Officer

We are seeking a Senior Performance and Evaluation Officer (APS6) to play a key role in supporting the delivery of nationally significant sustainable agriculture programs. Working across program and policy teams, you will lead performance reporting and evaluation activities that help demonstrate program impact, inform decision-making and support continuous improvement.

This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and analytical professional who enjoys working with stakeholders, translating complex information into actionable insights and contributing to high-quality government programs.

Location: This position can be based in Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide or remotely within Australia (depending on departmental requirements)

Key Responsibilities
As the Senior Performance and Evaluations Officer, you will:

• Lead program performance reporting activities, including contributions to annual reporting, corporate planning and thematic reporting requirements.
• Analyse program performance information to identify trends, outcomes and opportunities for improvement.
• Develop evidence-based advice and recommendations to support program, policy and operational decision-making.
• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting frameworks, processes and tools.
• Contribute to program reviews, evaluations and learning initiatives, including the management of externally delivered evaluations where required.
• Prepare high-quality briefs, reports, presentations and executive correspondence.
• Provide advice and guidance to stakeholders on monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting approaches.
• Build strong working relationships across the department and with external stakeholders.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen evaluation and reporting capability across the branch.
• Supervise and mentor a small team where required.

About You
To be successful, you will bring:

• Applicants must be Australian citizens and either hold, or be eligible to obtain, a Baseline security clearance.
• Experience leading or mentoring a small team.
• Demonstrated experience in program performance reporting, monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL), program management, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret information and develop practical solutions.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
• Well-developed written communication skills, including experience preparing reports, briefs, guidance materials and executive correspondence.
• The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.
• A professional, accountable and continuous improvement mindset.

Desirable

• Experience applying monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) frameworks and tools.
• Knowledge or experience in sustainable agriculture, natural resource management or environmental programs.
