Evolve Scientific recruitment is seeking an experienced
Business Unit Manager to lead operations, drive performance, and manage key client relationships for our Client's Laboratory located in Mackay, Queensland.
About the Role
You will oversee the full operational and commercial performance of the Laboratory, including P&L and people management, process improvement, and quality/safety compliance. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong technical understanding and stakeholder management skills.
Key Responsibilities- Lead daily operations with full P&L accountability
- Manage staffing, recruitment, training, and performance
- Ensure testing, reporting, and service delivery meet client standards
- Build strong client relationships and identify value‑add opportunities
- Maintain QHSE compliance and drive continuous improvement
- Prepare monthly reporting, forecasts, and oversee invoicing processes
About You- Tertiary qualification in Chemistry, Geology, Engineering, or similar (essential)
- Strong operational leadership experience in a technical, industrial, or laboratory environment
- Proven commercial and client management skills
- Excellent communication, decision‑making, and organisational ability
- Experience in fuel, coal - highly desirable. Complex Manufacturing, Industrial or Testing/Analysis Laboratory environments would also be considered
- Experience in developing processes & systems, with strong emphasis on Quality & Safety
- Exposure to project management is an advantage
