About the company/role:
Based in the south of Sydney, this well-known government organisation undertakes leading edge research in nuclear science and technology and provides specialised advice to government, industry, academia and other research organisations. The Development Scientist is responsible for developing, automating, and optimising AMS instruments and methods. The role involves development and validation of new techniques.
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct research and method development to enhance Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) methods
  • Provide expertise to capability development activities and projects to improve and expand capabilities for research, innovation, and industry applications.
  • Develop plans & processes concerning quality, regulatory and safety assessments for the installation and testing of new and improved AMS methods.
  • Support stakeholders by operating accelerator beamlines and instruments, performing experiments and analysing and interpreting data
  • Identify new capabilities that will optimise user experience of CAS services
  • Propose development programs for inclusion in CAS Research & Development Plan and Asset Management Plan
Skills & experience:
  • PhD in Inorganic Chemistry or related field
  • Australian Citizenship required
  • Experience in radiocarbon dating and sample processing for accelerator mass spectrometry
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems in real-time
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to present technical information and contribute to journal publications
  • Excellent time management skills
