About the company and role:
The company is a well-known waste management and environmental services organisation based in the inner south eastern suburbs of Perth. They are seeking a Chemist to join their team immediately. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity.

In this role you will coordinate the safe handling, treatment, and disposal of packaged hazardous waste across the WA Liquid and Hazardous business. The role will require you to develop the business units technical capabilities to process hazardous waste and support industrial services projects. You will work alongside the sales team to provide waste management solutions.

Reporting to the Metro Packaged Waste Operations Supervisor, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Incoming Waste - responsible for all incoming packaged hazardous waste, including unloading, identification, labelling, manifesting, storage.
  • Waste processing - plan the daily waste treatment activities, allocating treatment methods, complete compatibility testing, develop and implement methods, and assist operators as required
  • Waste dispatch - liaise with third parties where onsite treatment is not viable, prepare waste material loads for dispatch, including, inspection, packaging, identification, labelling, manifesting and preparation of consignment paperwork
  • Manage a small team of waste process technicians and operators.
  • Operate and maintain waste treatment and processing equipment, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency, reduce environmental impact and develop and implement sustainable waste management strategies.
  • Promote a safety-first culture that supports continuous health and safety improvement.
About you:
  • Tertiary qualification in Chemistry or related discipline.
  • Current C Class driver’s license.
  • Previous experience in the waste industry in a similar role is high advantageous.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills.
In addition to this, you will be a quality-focused individual with excellent attention to detail and have a can-do attitude.
