Are you a Chemist who enjoys being hands-on and making a real impact on sustainability? We are seeking a motivated and practical Graduate or Junior Chemist to join a growing operation within the battery recycling and resource recovery industry.
This is not a traditional laboratory-only role. You'll split your time between laboratory testing, process optimisation, and working directly within a heavy industrial recycling environment.
About the Role Working as part of a close-knit technical team, you will play a key role in the treatment, testing and recovery of valuable materials from waste streams. You will support chemical treatment processes, conduct laboratory analysis, characterise incoming waste materials, and contribute to continuous improvement projects aimed at advancing circular economy outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with chemical treatment processes including acid/caustic neutralisation and waste treatment activities.
- Conduct laboratory testing, bench-scale trials, jar testing, flash testing and treatment optimisation studies.
- Collect and analyse samples from production and waste treatment streams.
- Characterise waste materials and determine suitable treatment pathways.
- Prepare samples for external laboratory analysis and maintain accurate records.
- Monitor treatment performance and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Support trials involving new waste streams, recycling technologies and recovery processes.
- Assist with research and development initiatives focused on resource recovery and sustainability.
- Provide technical support across operational areas as required.
- Ensure compliance with WHS, environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with chemical inventories, SDS management and compliance reporting.
About You To be successful in this role, you'll be a practical Chemist who is happy working in both laboratory and industrial environments.
You will ideally have:
- A degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- Strong chemistry knowledge and analytical skills.
- A hands-on approach and willingness to work within a heavy industrial environment.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- A genuine interest in sustainability, recycling and resource recovery.
- Experience within laboratory, water treatment, waste treatment, environmental or manufacturing environments will be highly regarded.
- A current driver's licence.
- Forklift licence, or willingness to obtain one, is advantageous.
