About the company/role:
Based in the south of Sydney, this well-known government organisation undertakes leading edge research in nuclear science and technology and provides specialised advice to government, industry, academia and other research organisations. The I&C Engineer will provide technical input into the design and engineering of scaled-up process technologies, help in the design of specific nuclearised equipment and processes for the team’s technology development.

Responsibilities include:
  • Assist in the design and development of electrical, control, and instrumentation engineering problems
  • Participate in the complete engineering process from concept development through to manufacture, assembly and commissioning
  • Work closely with the technical lead to deliver design packages and ensure changes or discrepancies are addressed.
  • Support the prototype development and deployment of process instrumentation for large scale engineered systems including their maintenance and repair.
  • Verify engineering designs are safe to construct, commission, operate, maintain and decommission.
  • Develop design documentation including reports, datasheets and specifications and review supplier documentation.
  • Develop existing and new concepts from concept through to detailed engineering that will allow our client to demonstrate the feasibility of its process technology.
  • Provide technical input into instrumentation and control engineering for simple and complex plant sections.
  • Lead the technical review of design and specification of equipment, instruments and control systems.
  • Develop and coordinate test plans for I&C packages and provide instruction and feedback to the project process engineering team.
  • Provide leadership in technical and engineering collaborations or partnerships with other engineering disciplines.
  • Lead continuous improvement methodologies through considering alternative design concepts.
Skills & experience:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Australian Citizenship required
  • Demonstrated experience in leading design packages as part of research and engineering development (design, development, and implementation of instrumentation and control for industrial applications).
  • Demonstrated experience leading prototype development, validation and the development of testing procedures.
  • Experience with software development that integrates multiple unit operations into automated functional groups.
  • Experienced in producing engineering and technical reports
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  • Reliable and deadline driven with project management skills
