Duties/responsibilities:

Laboratory Operations
  • Oversee daily lab operations, resource allocation, and instrument performance
  • Monitor workflow and reassign tasks to meet turnaround times
  • Ensure equipment calibration and maintenance are completed on schedule
  • Adapt to changing priorities and perform additional duties as needed e.g. laboratory benchwork
People & Culture
  • Lead team management processes
  • Conduct regular check‑ins and performance reviews
  • Create and maintain development plans for all team members
  • Mentor and coach staff
  • Maintain staffing levels and support a positive team culture
Client Management & Business Development
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Act as first contact for clients
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities
  • Provide client visit reports and maintain client insights
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with NATA, ISO, and internal QMS requirements
  • Support method improvements and audit readiness
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Encourage team ideas for workflow optimisation
  • Support evaluation and validation of new methods and technologies

Skills/experience:
  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or similar discipline
  • Must have prior experience in a NATA accreditated laboratory environment and a strong technical background
  • Experience in an environmental laboratory is highly ideal
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Teamwork skills and ability to mentor junior staff
