About the company/role:
  • We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Technician to join an R&D team developing advanced solutions for green iron technology. They have a big focus on green energy and carbon neutrality targets
  • Based in the northern suburbs of Perth
  • This is a great opportunity to develop your chemistry experience, providing scientific/technical support and service activities in a research laboratory setting
  • 3-month casual contract, full time hours
  • Monday-Friday, normal business hours

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Support in hydrometallurgical tests such as leaching, precipitation, filtration and impurity removal
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis and characterisation of samples, raw materials, reagents, and products by using a multiple laboratory-based techniques (e.g. XRD, XRD, SEM, ICP, IC, Titration) under the guidance of relevant senior team members.
  • Follow standard test procedures and assist chemists, metallurgist and engineers
  • Record and report result accurately in laboratory notebook or spreadsheet
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory safety procedures and chemical handling protocols
  • Use appropriate PPE and participate in risk assessments
  • Support the team to engage with vendors for the sourcing of materials and, where applicable, provide input into the development of products suited to Fortescue needs
  • Assist in managing laboratory supplies including stocks of materials, chemicals, and waste disposal.

About you:
  • Background in industrial chemistry, mineral processing, or materials science is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy or related discipline or Certificate IV with more than 5 years industry laboratory experience
  • 1-3 years industry laboratory experience
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining a strong focus on safety
  • Experience in analytical methods and characterisation techniques
  • Experience in industrial production laboratories handling hazardous materials
  • Exhibits enthusiasm with a “can do” attitude, self-motivated and ability to work on own initiative
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills and other analytical equipment software
