About the company/role: Our client is an Australian medical device company specialising in infection prevention. They are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join the team to help design, develop and support automated test systems used for design verification, validation and manufacturing quality gates.  

Duties:
  • Design and develop test systems, fixtures, and automated electromechanical/pneumatic subsystems for verification, validation, and manufacturing quality testing
  • Produce CAD designs, drawings, and technical documentation to support fabrication, assembly, and commissioning
  • Build, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain test systems across R&D and manufacturing environments
  • Develop and execute test plans across development, qualification, and acceptance phases
  • Analyse test failures, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions
  • Support risk assessments (including FMEA), control plans, KPIs, and continuous process improvements
  • Provide technical support to production and operations teams for new processes and diagnostic systems
  • Apply statistical analysis to assess system performance, stability, and capability
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Management System and WHS requirements
  • Support broader operations engineering activities as required

Skills/experience:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks or similar) with experience delivering production-ready mechanical designs and documentation
  • Experience designing automated electromechanical and/or pneumatic systems, ideally integrated with PLC-based controls
  • Hands-on experience with testing, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and development of test rigs or production test systems
  • Knowledge of FMEA, risk assessment, quality methodologies, and use of statistical tools (e.g. Minitab, JMP) to validate system performance
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional engineering teams
