About the company/role: Our client, a government organisation, is seeking an
PO2 Graduatel Chemist to join their team based in the western suburbs of Brisbane. This role is a full time, 6-month contract, with possible extension.
As an Chemist, you will you will be involved in testing client samples, reporting results and maintaining equipment. You will be a part of a team providing technical support to the coal mining industry. This will involve installation of equipment, training of mine site personnel, and remote and onsite troubleshooting of equipment. On the job training will be provided for all aspects of the job.
Duties:- Use of current methodology to analyse gas samples associated with occupational health, environment and coal spontaneous combustion, by micro GC (gas chromatography).
- Prepare test records, technical reports and associated communications to appropriate quality assurance standards.
- Ensuring instrumentation is functioning efficiently and effectively using dedicated application software.
- Use document and data handling packages to process instrument derived data, calculate test results and prepare test reports for clients
- Participate in all-hours provision of professional and technical support services relating to gasmonitoring systems and safety in coal mines, particularly the assessment and evaluation of mine atmospheric conditions.
Skills/experience:- Degree level qualification in Chemistry or equivalent discipline
- Previous experience working with a wide variety of analytical equipment, including general maintenance and troubleshooting
- Report writing experience
- Demonstrated competence with Mircosoft Excel
- Experience in a NATA laboratory using gas chromatography highly desirable
