About the company/role:
Our state government client is seeking a skilled Scientist (PO2) to join their team in Mackay on a full-time basis until August 2025 with possibility of further extension.

In this role, you will be part of a team delivering the Paddock to Reef Integrated Monitoring, Modelling and Reporting Program’s paddock monitoring trials. Specifically, this position will be working on Mackay Whitsunday paddock and sub-catchment scale nutrient, sediment and pesticide monitoring projects relevant to wetlands and the sugarcane and horticulture industries. Your contribution to the project will be to assist in sample collection and processing, data analysis, storage and interpretation, and the production of technical reports and case studies.
Duties:
  • Assist in the develop and implementation of programmed paddock monitoring activities
  • Provide scientific input into catchment management and monitoring programs
  • Assist and undertake research and monitoring activities
  • Assist in the preparation of work programs and budgets
  • Assist or supervise professional and technical staff working on monitoring programs

Skills/experience:
 
  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management or Aquatic Science or equivalent disciple
  • Knowledge of paddock monitoring data sets and methods
  • Experience in preparation of complex, technical data
  • Unrestricted manual Driver’s License
  • Experience with statistical analysis packages such as Excel, R, Denstat, Python etc.
