About the company/role:
Our client is a well-regarded Australian battery technology company at the forefront of advanced materials and battery technology. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Scientist / Experimental Lead to join their Brisbane-based team on a permanent basis.
This is a hands-on, technically diverse opportunity for an experienced scientist who enjoys designing experiments, solving complex technical challenges and working collaboratively across multiple product development programs.
Reporting to the Executive General Manager – Advanced Battery Technology, you will play a key role in planning and executing complex experimental programs, generating high-quality technical data and supporting the development and commercialisation of innovative battery technologies.
You will work closely with Product Development Managers and cross-functional teams, while also providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior scientists.

Duties:
  • Design and implement targeted experimental programs supporting product development, refinement and commercialisation activities.
  • Develop and optimise experimental methods, test protocols and characterisation approaches.
  • Plan, execute and analyse complex experiments, ensuring robust data capture and appropriate quality control.
  • Support advanced testing requirements, including electrochemical analysis and materials characterisation.
  • Work closely with Product Development Managers to deliver technical and commercial objectives.
  • Translate experimental findings into clear technical reports and recommendations for a range of stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring and support to junior technical staff, promoting best-practice experimental planning and execution.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and effective operation of laboratory equipment and facilities.
  • Support technical documentation and contribute to the company's intellectual property and patent activities where required.

Skills/experience:
  • A PhD or equivalent industry experience in Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years' post-doctoral industry experience
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing advanced technical experimental and characterisation programs.
  • A strong foundation in electrochemistry.
  • Experience working within product development, project management and quality management processes.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical reporting skills.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment and maintenance.

Experience in lithium-ion battery R&D will be highly regarded, particularly experience relating to battery materials, electrode development, additives, resins or associated technologies.
