About the role:
Our client, a mining and metallurgical company that operates worldwide, are seeking a Server Engineer to join their Brisbane based team, on a 12-month contract, with possibility of extension. As a Server Engineer, you will be responsible for the deployment of virtual servers, understanding of firewall rules, network concepts including network segmentation and understanding of identity concepts.

This role may involve some work out of hours, along with travel both interstate and/or to New Zealand. You will also be required to attend the office two days per week.

Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the end-to-end implementation and delivery of documented requirements for MFA platform across multiple (3-4) operational technology sites.
  • The role requires collaboration with specialists from other technical domains to request, validate, and accept necessary dependencies, such as virtual servers, firewall rules, and service accounts.
  • The technical specialist must establish and maintain trust with domain specialists and local technical support teams to ensure smooth project execution.
  • They are responsible for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues at both the platform and user levels during deployment.
  • The Server Engineer must ensure that all changes are properly explained, documented, and coordinated with the operational support team.
  • Define the overall technical delivery requirements and be available for issue escalation as needed.
Skills/experience:

  • Identity & Access Management Expertise: Strong understanding of Microsoft Identity, Active Directory (AD), Kerberos, NTLM, Authentication protocols, Cloud MFA, and Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD).
  • End-User Device Management: Proficiency in managing and troubleshooting Windows laptops, desktops, virtual machines, and mobile devices.
  • Infrastructure Services: Deep knowledge of DNS, Windows services, and network segmentation to support infrastructure service configurations.
  • Networking: Solid understanding of basic network terminology and technology like VLANs, firewalls, and IP networking, including the ability to request, validate, and coordinate network deliverables with other specialists.
  • Change Management & Security Compliance: Experience in handling change management processes, firewall rule requests, and Active Directory account/group creation in compliance with security and operational policies.
  • Effective Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to liaise effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.
