About the company/role:
Our client, a global leader in the water, hygiene, and energy technology fields, is currently seeking a chemistry (or a related scientific field) or chemical engineering student on a casual, ongoing basis.
In this role you will be acting as a Service Technician undertaking water testing and equipment maintenance for a large paper manufacturing plant based in Brisbane.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students currently in the 2nd or 3rd years of their degrees to gain valuable experience, with potential to transition to permanency upon graduation. Full training will be provided.

The successful candidate must be able to commit to working one day a fortnight, with potential for the role to increase to one day a week dependant on business needs. The position is on call so someone who is available at short notice would be an advantage.  

Duties:
  • Liaising with customers for the purpose of scheduling plant maintenance and providing post-inspection briefs regarding the service outcomes.
  • Carrying out plant inspections and equipment maintenance as required.
  • Maintaining chemical levels in run tanks, including topping up of large chemical using forklifts provided by site. 
  • Maintaining adequate chemical inventory on site.
  • Performing routine water tests and recording results in the templates provided.
  • Preparation of service reports, post inspection, and distribution to the customers.
  • Some manual lifting of chemical pails (weight ~16 kg) will be required.
  • At times, you may be required to visit sites outside of their scheduled service periods on short notice to address critical equipment issues or empty chemical tanks.  

Skills/experience:
To be considered for this position you must:
 
  • Be currently undertaking a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related scientific discipline, preferably in 2nd or 3rd year that can commit to the position long term (mandatory).
  • Have a current car and license (mandatory).
  • Have access to your own laptop and be familiar with Microsoft Excel and Word software (mandatory).
  • Be reliable and capable of working independently.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have good attention to detail.
  • Be mechanically minded and capable of trouble shooting simple equipment issues.
  • Basic plumbing knowledge is advantageous.
